The authorities in Australia placed all poppers except for amyl/isoamyl nitrite under a more strict category, based on evidence that these poppers were more toxic than amyl. Amyl was placed in a category that allowed for easier dispensing of it in drugs stores. Amyl was deemed as an important tool for gay men to allow for easier, safer penetration.
