Years without finding that old disinhibition sensation

I can't tell why, but I haven't been able to get that feeling anymore. I mean 10 years ago it was sooooo easy to get good rush bottles from holland that I used often either to have sex with my partner or to jerk watching porno on my own. The bottles made a clear pop sound whenever I opened them and had inside them a small ball (I don`t know if it's called pellet) of a yellowish colour that lasted as long as the bottle.
The feeling I used to get was fantastic. I didn't care much for any dilatation feelings since, as I said before, I used it often just to jerk while watching porno. The sensation was just a total disinhibition in my mind, a total arouse and a complete different perception of the porno I was watching, making it feel almost like a real thing, I'm not kidding.
In these last years I've tried to order many times from many resellers set in Portugal and France. Brands like Rush, JJ, Bolt.... Amyl nitrites, Iosamyl nitrites... but no feeling at all. No little ball inside the bottles, no pop sound when opening, and, most importantly, no pleasing effect at all. Only heart speed, uncomfortable heat in the head and no psychological effect at all.
Is any one out there living out this same problem?
Does any one know why it all has changed so much from the nineties an 2000 years?
And. above all, does anyone know where to get that old, so long missed real poppers stuff nowadays?
My life quality would feel so much improved if I ever got the chance to feel that sensation again.
Thanks for your time and for any advices or info you might provide!!

"Does any one know why it all has changed so much from the nineties an 2000 years?".....
yeah... you are 22 years older. simples. your brain is foggy and nostalgic, and your body is clapped out after all those years. Chemicals don't change, human beings do....sad but true

"Chemicals don't change".....
If you read some of the messages in the forum you may find out that mostly the real problem is that the chemicals used in the poppers’ bottles as a matter of fact HAVE CHANGED. Due to new regulations, maybe, or simply because is cheaper for the producers to fake the product.
In my own experience, a few years ago, maybe 8 and not 20, I have had in my hand two rush bottles, one old and another one new, and I had the expected effects with the old one and nothing with the new one, same day, same session. So, same person, same age, thus obviously different chemicals.
Stay cool

I'm in the camp that believes something did change. And I don't mean just a subtle change. Over the course of maybe a year or so, poppers went from being potent to being garbage. Perhaps this is the length of time it too for the stock of quality poppers to be replaced with totally inferior poppers of the same name.
I mean for years and years and years they had a consistently good product. I had no worry if my next purchase of RUSH ( my go to ) was going to be good or not. Because it was. It was exactly like my previous one. And the one before that. And the one before that, etc.
Something did change. And it hasn't been the same since.

@Hi There....you are absolutely right!!! Don't let the others feed you disinformation. The chemistry/purity has changed markedly. Even small differences in purity/chemistry will make a huge difference in perceived effects. It's not YOU....it's what's in the bottle. As soon as Joe Miller's product ended sometime in 2010-11, I had people calling me to tell me something was markedly different in the new poppers. They weren't nearly as good. And nothing has changed since. So many things have to fit together perfectly to get a great popper that can be sniffed directly from the bottle. Among these things....you have to select the best overall nitrite type, that would give the best odor, the most stability of product, and the best overall pleasurable effects. You have to make it pure enough, so that there are no undesirable impurities that could cause unpleasant side effects. You have to bottle it dry, so any residual water doesn't degrade it on the shelf. You have to know which purity/type/composition will NOT cause one to easily OD sniffing directly from the bottle, so that one can whiff frequently without having to stop the second the horrible side effects kick in. This is the only way one can achieve a mind blowing experience that can be repeated and sustained.

Regarding Joe Miller, the last great maker of poppers in the USA:
I don't know if his product had been perfected in his early days. He was in business at least 30 years....perhaps there was a learning curve he had to endure or perhaps he had the right method/formula from the beginning.
Some old timers have stated that poppers over the decades became less potent as formulas apparently changed. The big question is did they become better overall? High potency can mean higher chance of ODing with prolonged sniffing directly from the bottle. Any transition into the OD stage will cause the user to start feeling quite unwell, which will NOT lead to a pleasurable, memorable experience.

@Elvis, I'm from your area and though I didn't have more than a few years of quality poppers, I can vouch for all you say. The minute Joe's quality poppers had left the shelves, the replacements were inferior. I tried to buy the replacements, more than once. Since I don't keep buying garbage, I just stopped. It's not in our heads...what has changed is the formula the stuff that's in the bottle.

Yes. Taking hits directly from the bottle was all that was ever needed. It's all I ever did. Take off the cap and inhale. Back then I never heard of a sippy cup method or having to stick a rolled up sock in your mouth. How utterly ridiculous to have to do that now.

Aside from the usual junk science from Ken, the formula for OTC poppers have changed considerably over the years. From n-Butyl (very nice when fresh,a bit harsh when degraded) to IsoButyl (a bit stronger when fresh, VERY nasty when degraded) to CycloHexyl (very weak) to IsoPropyl (extremely potent when fresh, degrades extremely quickly).
That is the situation; most of the rest of the side effects are either confabulation of the past (as TDFG said above) or variations in the production method.
The guy above who had two back-to-back bottles, one having good effects and one having 'no' effects at all illustrates this.
The Professor said on Tue, 7 Jun 2022 at 16:59...
In that, while the alcohol is being nitrosated, the concentration of the product is rising, but NOT linearly (as in a straight line from 0-100%), the rise is gaussian.
Therefore, the 'expected' effects match the actual effects when the gaussian distribution is within the second and third quartiles (sorry for the math speak, i talked about it previously; that text might make more sense to a layman).
TL;DR
a SLIGHT change in the nitrosation of the product (a gaussian buildup) translates to an EXTREME change in perceived effects.
That's how two of the same product can have such varying effects

@Elvis and @Anonymous, thanks so much for your post. I know perfectly well it's not a matter of age and I know I (or my brain) haven't changed to the extent of not feeling the sensations I felt before. The last time I had real poppers was exactly in 2014 and that year, when I ordered my rush bottles as usual, as I had done for quite a lot of years before, what arrived to me had nothing to do with the real thing. I kept a bottle of good old real rush that was about to finish rationing it as much as I could, and using it to jerk off while watching porn until it sadly ended, and I had with me the new bottles arrived with no effects at all, if not just unpleasant (upspeeding of my heartbeat, heat al over the face and no sensation of inhibition at all). I had to throw them to the garbage.
Ever since then, I've tried from time to time to order poppers from different resellers hoping to find the one that would just repeat that felling and I have found none. As a long time poppers user (exactly for thirty years until 2014), I knew perfectly well the side effects of it. Maybe dizziness when used a lot, even headache and some coughing, or nose irritation and the upbeat speed of the heartbeat, but the incredible sensation of full disinhibition made worthy to have those effects and more.
I have to admit that my interest for real sex without poppers has been diminished enormously, it’s also true that I am now in my 50's and my body has also experienced some changes, but even so, I just cannot understand why people who have had access only to the shit they're selling around from 2014 continue to buy it. I mean, if the effects they have are those that I have experienced myself with the actual poppers, what's the point in using it? Where's the pleasure? I just don't get the point.
Furthermore, when I visit some gay porn sites and see those films made to watch while sniffing poppers, I wonder why on earth should I sniff something that gives me no sensation at all and all the unpleasant side effects.
But it also makes me think that if these videos are being made, it might mean that real poppers is somehow still possible to find.
I've ordereda few days ago from aromas.eu two bottles of rush black label and rush zero (for years I simply had to order the regular, plain yellow rush and it always worked) but if I have to be honest, I just have the feeling that I'll be disappointed once again. I even called to the phone indicated on the website and talked with a woman(sigh), trying to make myself clear about what I was searching for (poppers whit that little ball inside the liquid, the pop/hiss sound when opened etcetera, etcetera) and she assured that these versions of rush she was telling me about were exactly the real stuff, but I’m afraid that when I’ll try it’ll have nothing to do with the real thing we (@Elvis, @Anonymous and me) are talking about. And if I phone again to complain I know, I’m sure, that the answer will be something stupid like “chemicals don’t change, human beongs do”…
So, my question now is: since the author of this website, poppersguide.com, affirms that those three distributors that he mentions on the site are providing the real thing, and even if he refers to Jungle Juice (the real Jungle Juice from so many years ago would also do for me. I always preferred rush, but the real Jungle Juice also gave me the real sensation, even if it was somehow different the sensation was there), have you tried to order poppers from those three sites? I’ve tried to buy from Buy Poppers.net but my credit card was rejected, maybe due to the fact that I’m ordering from Spain with a rechargeable Visa (that gave me no problems at all with aromas.eu, though).
If so, if you’ve ordered from these websites, please let me know about how has it gone. I’ll keep you posted in this thread about my experience with the bottles I’m expecting to receive this week from aromas.eu.
Thanks guys

You'd think that, living on Long Island when I was a kid (through the 70s and first half of the 80s, then living in New York through the 90s, that I would have had the same lick that Elvis and Ken had with Pac West products.
I did not.
My popper experience started with the Boy Scouts; our scoutmaster would give us the crushable vials of Amyl to put in our snake bite kits. It wasn't a sexual thing yet, we were still kids.
The Locker room and Rush hit. Not much of a difference between them that I remember. A very quick hitting, but short lived euphoria. It hit hard and fast, and ALWAYS was followed by the worst headache of your life)
Then the power pellet hit, and it did absolutely nothing. I remember we used to desperately shake the bottle, hoping the ball would soak up the smell (it ALWAYS developed a nasty aroma if not used very quickly, but we thought that was just how it was.
I didn't have the OTC experience where every bottle was the same as the last. Ever.

Elvis:
dosing from a mask, or other device that has you locked into the vapor stream, isn't exactly safe.
The sippy cup or sock method will at least fall away if you pass out.
The original idea behind it was NOT to get a 'bigger hit'.
It was to slow down degradation of the liquid in the bottle. It's only common sense that if oxygen destroys the product, don't expose all of your product to oxygen each time you are only using a few ml.
A side effect of this method is that the headspace above the liquid is quite a bit larger, allowing for MORE vapor fumes to build.
This method of aliquoting per use amounts into a storage jar is used to preserve fragile liquids.
There's only a couple of CC worth of space in a bottle for vapors to build, and the vapor pressure of the product isn't very high.
Short neck bottles, wide mouth bottles, etc. ALL change the amount of headspace in the bottle, AND they all change the amount of vapor that's getting into your lungs.
Something like an aliquoted amount, in a higher headspace container, will provide a large vapor building area.
It's just as easy to overdo it by taking the longest hit you can, than it is to get a metered dose, that's more consistent than any nose-to-the-bottle technique

@Hi There.....I have ordered from PA in France. Nothing was as good as Joe's poppers. The last 5-30 ml bottles I received were almost dead. So I never ordered again. The bottles from Lockerroom have lot numbers, so they knew they were sending me old stock.
I don't think it's a matter of "real" versus "fake". It's just a matter of bottling the best quality and the best nitrite for sexual recreation, making certain to give it optimal post processing treatment to maximize shelf life. It's VERY VERY easy to obtain the reagents, and mix up gallons of product possessing a very wide range of effects/odors, and then these effects/odors change as the nitrite degrades waiting to be sold. I haven't received word yet of any maker that has duplicated what Joe Miller had. LockerRoom in Canada can make decent poppers, but I didn't like the odor especially and as I stated, they do degrade sitting on the shelf. I don't think they gave much of a high, even when they were still active.

It's strange to me that you went from distrusting OTC benefits to falling all over yourself in love with the MOST rrun-of-the-mill vendor there is, locker room.
Before you plastered your OPINION all over reditt and vouched for locker room, and how their 'lot numbers' on the lid guaranteed freshness, did it ever occur to you that a vendor that makes TONS per year is NOT doing it in a batch-wise fashion?
IOW, of course Ken was duped by lot numbers. In flow chemistry there is no such thing as a batch or lot.
A person with a damaged spleen should NOT be setting the agenda for what is and isn't 'good', particularly when they are a : hostile witness' to what had happened to them over the years.

UPDATE: Received today my pack from euro-poppers.eu. At the moment I've just tried Super Black Label Rush, (pure amyle nitrite) and for the first time in years I had that sweet sensation back. Not as strong as the old PWD Rush formula but finally something that is o.k., veeeeery close to that old feeling I was searching to feel. so I can recommend it to anyone interested. I still have to try Rush Zero: which is a mix of amyl and y propyl. Would I ever had paid 8 euros even if the bottle wouldn't work anymore just to have had that sensation? YES, I would, so finally I got what I was longing to.
Hope my review is usefull to you.
By the way, package delivered in three working days

@Hi there
i and many understand your quest. but
I don't think amyl nitrite can be legally sold, no matter what they claim.
trust the professor who makes his own and has published how-to links.
i prefer fresh isobutyl for the sensations you describe, and agree they are
Missing in Action since 2012 or thereabouts, why did EVERY country suddenly change formulas? or is it all a scam with two big companies putting different labels on the same crap!
Not one single vendor has responded to my emails asking for a brand list and the exact chemical blends in each, even though this is a medical requirement in Australia and New Zealand where poppers are legal now, but all the sex shop brands are now unavailable because of their fakery (leather cleaner is not acceptable any more to customs) and lack of pharma grade labelling and packaging. it's just not worth their while to make real poppers for such a tiny market where the law demands expensive pharma packaging to comply. how ironic! legal and no body wants to market them.

@Hi there:
Real poppers are being made, in backyards. Some lucky ducks get to buy the excess of those moonshine makers, I wish I knew one, but they won't likely post here, apart from the two feuding posters, and who knows where they are based!
It's not always easy to get the raw ingredients (Thailand), some places are too hot to make them (Thailand) I'm now in New Zealand, and I shit you not meth is easier to get, and it's way cheaper than the ersatz poppers all sites now sell, accounting for import shipping and forex, and unbelievably, meth is also cheaper than weed. that's how fucked up the war on drugs has made things here. I just want some decent poppers, and I am hoping to have better luck mixing my own here, than I did trying to source the ingredients in Thailand.

@Putinsputa.....
I have heard about the situation in Australia. Here in the USA, there are no good reliable poppers either. I became interested(addicted) to them right before the good ones ceased to exist. I had two years of always being able to buy good poppers virtually anywhere and everywhere in the USA. I've been obsessed with making them for 10 years....and despite what you may read online, making the kind you would love to whiff over and over again and have a decent shelf life is NOT easy. That's why nobody has filled the quality vacuum in all these years. Locker Room in Canada makes a lot of poppers, has great labeling/bottling, but they still aren't as good as what was in the USA prior to 2011. And they can't be ordered directly from the USA as it's illegal for LR to ship them directly to the USA.
The hardest thing about making them is...what's the best type of nitrite and what should it smell like....what should the effects be? There is a very wide range of possible effects and odors depending presumably upon what the exact chemistry is in the bottle. When making them, it's a guessing game. is this odor right? Is this a weird effect or the right type of effect from a well made popper? I think one discovers the biggest clue after a week or two of shelf life. If the popper has degraded a lot and stinks, has little effect, I presume it not to have been made well. Wasn't pure enough from the beginning.
I would try the amyl nitrite prep I posted from an actual published chemistry book. It's just 18.5 mls of amyl alcohol and car battery acid seemed to work for me, though I've only tried it once so far. I used TCI one pentanol and the odor is aromatic, slightly sweet and similar to a mild cleaning agent. Effects are good.
The method requires shaking as the sulfate precip will keep building. Keep it cold while shaking. Follow the prep and you should get a good result. I froze antifreeze for my ice bath. My reaction looked like a bust due to some orange brown gas and thicker and thicker crystal buildup. But the shaking helped a lot. Takes patience. Add small amounts of water after the initial harvest and keep harvesting as it surfaces until no more forms. The amyl nitrite is otherwise trapped in the sulfate cyrstals that formed from the sulfuric acid and you won't be able to harvest it.

Poppers aren't much fun now I'm 10 years older.
Dancing all night in a club isn't much fun any more either.
Oh, it must be the nightclub's fault!

@Billy...I don't like the same kind of music I liked in the 80s, but I still LOVE music and I still love to dance because I know how to.
I know for a fact, that each brew I make can have very different odors and effects. I often have an assortment of brews on my night stand and it's clear that most do not offer any pleasure. And when one brew does, it's amazing and noteworthy. And virtually every single time the effects are great, the odor is very good too.
