I read an old druggist article via google books from 1899 that stated adding carbonic oxide to amyl nitrite prevented all the unpleasant side effects. They called it carbonated amyl nitrite. Maybe that's the secret to Joe's formula.

Carbonic Oxide is the original name for Carbon Monoxide. a deadly poison, NOT Carbon DIoxide, which when dissolved in a liquid makes it fizz.
either way, the fizz from old school poppers wasn't CO2, it was less violent (lower vapor pressure) and the bubbles are smaller.

Last two posts are my imposter again. Someone trying to stir up trouble for the sake of it. It's how they get their jollies.

The moderator could figure out who's pretending to be me...by checking IP addresses. Mine is always the same. And I only post using my "nitritespecialist" screen.

Last two posts? I only see one post? does the imposter have a time machine?

Here's an interesting link where F. Winkler added CO2 to amyl nitrite to prevent all the bad effects. Wonder if Joe Miller had been doing that...since he bottled when cold and they always popped upon opening".

I deleted them. But I clicked the wrong command and they disappeared altogether, sorry for the confusion.

I like reading your posts and learned a lot to differentiate good and bad better. So I’m able to take more care of myself.
…and I’m waiting for your review of the French products…

@mam 100% agree

Regardless, it would be interesting to learn why Merck thought carbonated amyl nitrite was worth mentioning circa 1900 and why certain chemists thought it effectively eliminated side effects.
Perhaps a small piece of dry ice dropped in a bottle of poppers would carbonate it so it could be tested for effects - BEFORE and after addition of the CO2.

I would make certain the bottle of poppers was super cold before dropping a tiny piece of dry ice in it.

@Nitritespecialist:
the idea comes from using Amyl Nitrite as a treatment for cyanide poisoning; alternate between CO2 and Amyl nitrite; the CO2 was thought to alleviate methemoglobinemia back then. It doesn't; the idea turned out to be an illusion (like an Alabama slammer).

the name of that book is MERCK'S ARCHIVES OF THE MATERIA MEDICA AND ITS USES, VOLUME 2
the Materia media is the prime historical source of information about the medicines used by the Greeks, Romans, and other cultures of antiquity.
Merck thought NOTHING regarding carbonated Amyl nitrite, they curated a book that contains ancient ideas.
